Wood Mosaics
This is a portfolio of my signature work. Everything you see here has been made using a variety of local tree species and sustainably sourced wood. I only ever use the natural by-product of general forest and land management or the casualties of old age and storms to add to my palette of tree pieces.
With a background as a biologist, this current artistic exploration I’ve embarked on is dedicated, in part, to the trees I now work with. Whether it’s the bright orange hues of Yew or the deep brown, gnarled and twisted shapes of Hawthorn, the paper white Holly or perfect two-toned poker-chip pieces of Laburnum, each slice is a totally unique work of art in its own right and create symphonies of natural beauty when puzzled together. For me, that’s the joy of working with these materials (half the art’s done before I even think about the arrangement!) and I’m most often inspired by nature itself.
The subject matter is wide ranging and diverse, often carefully linked to the material used in a piece. Above all though, in a world where we’re increasingly distancing ourselves from the “natural”, I’ve decided to do my part in reversing that trend – and aim to install a little wild wonder in our tamer spaces.
All pieces with a RED border have been SOLD (but similar pieces can be commissioned to order). Click a piece to find more out about it …
