Life lines are pockmarked by pivotal events; first steps, the birth of a sibling, relationships, break-ups, a twin birth, the bumpy bits…etc. Each length represents a year and the whole piece displays a highly simplified version of what a life is filled with and defined by.

This method can be highly personalised to mark the lives of other individuals and even of couples or entire families, with separate (differently coloured), intertwining life lines.
