Once a common sight in the UK, ours Elms have been ravaged by Dutch Elm fungus since the 1960s and are now a rare and wonderful sight (hence why no Elm wood was used in the making of this mosaic!). Now however, a lot of work is being done by Elm enthusiats, breeding fungus-resistant strains to try and bring the mighty tree back in to our countryside!
