River Of Life

I was re-commissioned to produce another large scale artwork for the Salisbury River Park project. The artwork was to be mounted onto a new 15m long wall near the river, which was once again to be my source of inspiration for the design…

I began by taking local students out for studies of the river and got them to extract and name colours from their observations (e.g. “Luminescent Duckweed”, “Damselfly Flash”, “White Willow Reflections”, etc…). From them, we produced the River Avon Colour Palette:

The custom-made, Avon-inspired Palette has since been used throughout the city but I wanted to make it one of the main subjects of this next work. In celebration of the chalk stream’s unique habitat and natural abundance, I came up with the “River of Life”:

The artwork will be comprised of hundreds of individually cut wooden river critters, painted in the greens and blues of the Avon Colour Palette and mounted onto seven large shou sugi ban robinia slabs. Coming soon!
